What Is a Hair Transplant?

It's a type of surgery that moves hair you already have to fill an area with thin or no hair. First, the surgeon cleans your scalp and injects medicine to numb the back of your head. Your doctor will choose one of two methods for the transplant: FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) or FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction).

The number and type of graft you get depends on your hair type, quality, color, and the size of the area where you’re getting the transplant. Depending on the size of the transplant you’re getting, the process will take about 4 to 8 hours. You might need another procedure later on if you continue to lose hair or decide you want thicker hair.

At Koç University Hospital Hair Transplantation Center, we want the best results for our patients so we perform FUT or FUE, which are outlined below.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

FUE surgery is the procedure in which hair is taken from the donor area (nape, beard, chest, leg or pubic area) one by one as a follicular unite (1-2-3 or rarely contain 4 bristles) under the magnification with lup and the help of fine tubular rotary blades.

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)

FUT technique is the process of planting mini or micro grafts prepared by dissection under magnification with the help of microscopes or lups of the hair in the skin strip that  taken from the area Where the hair is not genetically spiked on the back of the head, into hair loss areas.
