Fertility Preservation

Fertility Preservation

Fertility preservation mainly focuses on helping women and men at reproductive age who have been faced with cancer treatment. When cancer treatment is on the focus, time is a very important component in the treatment steps. In order to help women and men preserve their fertility, Koç Healthcare Fertility Preservation Program reaches its patients in the matter of hours, immediately before starting cancer treatment.

Today, fertility preservation can also be used to prevent future infertility or unhealthy pregnancy related to advanced age. Learn more about our Egg Freezing Program.

Preservation Methods

Women who have been diagnosed with cancer and are about to undergo cancer treatment have various options for preserving their fertility, such as:

  • Oocyte cryopreservation (Egg Freezing)
  • Embryo cryopreservation
  • Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation
  • Ovarian Transposition (Oophoropexy)
  • Organ preserving surgery such as radical trachelectomy for cervical cancer.
  • Gonadal Shielding: For patients who are about to undergo radiotherapy, we provide special shielding of the reproductive organs to minimize the adverse effects of radiotherapy on fertility.

Men who are about to undergo cancer treatment also have options to preserve their fertility, with:

  • Sperm Cryopreservation: For patients who are about to undergo chemotherapy and who are able to provide a sperm sample with masturbation.
  • Testicular tissue cryopreservation:  For preadolescent boys testicular tissue that is removed surgically can be stored.
