Egg Freezing Program

Egg freezing (Oocyte Cryopreservation) is used to preserve the eggs of the patients who are planned to receive chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer, in patients prior to surgery for removal of ovarian cysts and also for social indications in women with a diminished ovarian egg reserve.  Frozen eggs may be stored for many years without significant deterioration and can be used when the woman is ready to conceive.

Egg freezing was originally purposed for protecting the eggs from the deleterious effects of treatments instituted for certain medical conditions and cancer. Today, however, due to changing parent attitudes towards childbearing pregnancy is usually contemplated at older ages.  This brings together a lower chance for conception and a higher risk of miscarriage primarily due to aging and diminishing ovarian reserve.   Luckily medical technology can defer safe childbearing to much older ages through egg freezing.  It is possible to become your own egg donor by freezing your eggs today and using them later in life when you are ready.

Our women’s health program offers counselling on fertility preservation, offers tests to understand more about your ovarian reserve through blood tests and ultrasound imaging, and provides a tailored approach according to your ovarian reserve and personal future plans.
