Vedat Şar, M.D. was born in 1955 in Istanbul. He graduated from Istanbul University, Istanbul School of Medicine in 1981. Dr. Şar completed his residency at the Hacettepe University, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry in 1986. He served as a faculty member at psychiatric departments of Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa and Istanbul Schools of Medicine between 1989 and 2014. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Psychiatry in 1990 and to Professor of Psychiatry in 1996. He worked as a visiting physician in Basel University, Department of Psychiatry in 1993 and 1994. In recognition of his scientific studies on psychotraumatology and dissociative disorders, Dr. Şar has been honoured by numerous international awards. He served as President of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) and as President of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS). Being currently a clinical faculty member at the Koc University School of Medicine, Dr. Şar started to serve as an attending physician at V.K.V. Healthcare Institutions in 2014.
