Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery

Semih Barlas has graduated from Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty and completed his Cardiovascular Surgery Residency in Istanbul Medical Faculty. He had his fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Arrhythmia Surgery in UK as a Registrar. He performed the first arrhythmia operation in Turkey. He became an Associate Professor in 1995 and Professor in 2002. He focused on Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery and Venous Surgery after 1995. He established and directed German Hospital Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Department. He worked as a Professor in Istanbul Medical Faculty, Cardiovascular Surgery and as the Director of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Departments till his retirement in 2011. He had trainings in various European centers on modern diagnostic and treatment methods of vein diseases. In USA, he worked in Morrison Vein Center and in New York University, with Nick Morrison, BB Lee, Lowell Kabnick on venous approaches. He focused on vein surgery after 2008. His contributions made the American Hospital and Medamerican Medical Center became one of the busiest and successful centers in Turkey in venous surgery. He is currently working in those two centers along with his academic post in Koc School of Medicine.
