Umut Altunoğlu M.D.

Assistant Professor of Medical Genetics

Umut Altunoğlu, MD was born in Istanbul in 1982. He worked in Istanbul University, Istanbul School of Medicine between 2013-2019, mainly as a clinical geneticist involved in multidisciplinary management of patients with rare genetic diseases, especially craniofacial malformation syndromes, and a researcher constructively collaborating with basic scientists from molecular, cellular and developmental biology. This effort lead to the refinement of both new and broad syndromic phenotypes, and identification of several genes underlying disease, leading to more than 45 peer-reviewed publications in international journals. Since 2019, he works as as a lecturer in Koç University School of Medicine, with research interests in molecular dysmorphology, frontonasal dysplasias, and gene identification in undiagnosed phenotypes through next-generation technologies.
